Common wisdom is that 75% of jobs come from some form of networking, referral, or internal promotion. At the end of the day, job seekers still have to login to a portal to apply for positions, but those who put it the pre-work–of decision-making, research, developing and working a strategy, and networking broadly–most often have better outcomes in line with their goals, strengths and interests.
Check out Eli Amdur’s suggestions in Forbes (he discusses using your local library–students at YSE have access to a wide range of resources through Yale Libraries, available on line–ask your CPD advisors if you have questions!).

“Use every available resource.
Research potential employers, using online sources and your public library. Enlist the aid of your reference librarians; they’re some of the most resourceful people you’ll ever know. Network, network, network. Not just on LinkedIn, but at live events at your alma mater, civic organizations, social functions, and, professional networking groups.”
