As the Director of Development, you will shape and implement our organization’s comprehensive development strategy. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), you will be responsible for evolving both the strategic and logistical components of our fundraising efforts. Your expertise will drive the cultivation of meaningful partnerships with a diverse array of stakeholders. In this role, you’ll primarily be responsible for
Development Strategy & Events
- Create and implement a strategic development plan to meet organizational objectives for annual and long-term financial objectives in consultation with senior leaders.
- Research, identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward a growing portfolio of funding opportunities from individual donors, foundations, corporations, and government agencies.
- Develop and implement various revenue models and sources to strengthen financial viability.
- Collaborate with internal team members to develop compelling proposals and presentations, manage partnerships, and identify new prospects.
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with current and prospective donors, including individuals, corporations, foundations, and other stakeholders.
- Plan and execute special events that engage donors and raise funds for the organization.
- In coordination with the CEO, create opportunities to increase the organization’s visibility through events and special initiatives as schedule and budget permit.
- Stay informed about trends and best practices in fundraising, incorporating innovative strategies to enhance revenue generation.
Grant Management & Reporting
- Research grant opportunities and develop profiles of funders, opportunities, and timing.
- Prepare proposals, and submit funding applications to foundations, government agencies, and other grant-making entities.
- Manage the grant application process, including compliance with grant requirements, reporting, and ensuring timely submission of grant deliverables.
- Prepare regular reports on fundraising activities, revenue projections, and progress towards fundraising goals for Board and leadership as requested.
- Regularly communicate with donors through personalized outreach, updates on organizational activities, and engagement opportunities.
- 5+ years of experience in nonprofit fundraising or development, with a proven track record of leveraging fundraising principles, techniques, and best practices
- Creative, innovative, and entrepreneurial mindset
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills; able to demonstrate professionalism and warmth when interacting with funders, staff, partners & others
- Demonstrated ability to set and achieve fundraising targets, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Excellent organizational skills and experience in organizing and prioritizing project sets based on substance, urgency, and capacity
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends if needed for fundraising events and donor meetings
- Passion for clean energy and a commitment to advancing sustainability and environmental stewardship
Preferred qualifications
- Understanding of federal grant applications and reporting
What we offer
The expected annual salary range for this position is $85,000-$95,000, commensurate with qualifications and location. We offer competitive benefits, including 100% comprehensive health care coverage for employees (medical, dental, and vision), at least 90% employer contribution toward health care coverage for dependents; work-from-home reimbursements (internet, phone, office set up), up to 3% employer match to 401K, 14 paid holidays plus 3 weeks of vacation, 5 sick days, and paid parental and caregiver leaves.
This role is a remote opportunity and open to applicants across the United States, with a preference for those based in the communities we serve. Currently we have team members in Houston and Austin. Occasional travel may be required for meetings, conferences, and other external engagements.
