Climate change and sustainability communications can be a challenging nut to crack. At The Carbonauts, we’re not interested in environmental tropes. Instead, our approach is to create compelling, creative content that is smart, approachable, and inspires people to take action.
As the Senior Editor, you’ll work closely with the Director of Content and the Content & Delivery team on a variety of projects – such as workshop presentation decks, course creation materials, student and client communications, customized client initiatives, and more – from ideation to finished product.
Primary Role and Duties
- Support Director of Content across all aspects of content creation and production
- Work with the Content & Delivery team on developing, creating, and refreshing Carbonauts workshops, including presentation decks and related content
- Work with the Content & Delivery team to create custom content for clients across a variety of media and platforms
- Assign, edit, and manage other various aspects of content production in collaboration with content creators and other staff
- Work with the Director of Content and Sales and Product Development teams to develop and pitch new content for our standard course catalog and custom content.
Requirements for the Senior Editor Role
- Extensive expertise in content creation and management across a variety of digital media formats, including assigning, line editing, content production management, etc.
- Proven experience writing long and short form content in a wide variety of formats, with the ability to adjust tone, voice, and style to meet the needs of diverse audiences
- Highly proficient research and reporting skills; ability to interpret scientific studies, understand methodologies, and reach out to experts for nuanced insights
- Comprehensive knowledge of key climate and sustainability concepts and ability to clearly communicate ideas to non-experts
- Aptitude for keeping up with related news and developments in climate science, sustainability culture, and ESG trends
- Basic photo research and graphic design skills (e.g., how to find and use licensed images, resize photos, what constitutes fair use, etc.)
- Video production experience is a plus, but is not critical
- Experience working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with co-workers and clients around the globe
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate clearly with internal team, external vendors, and clients
- Ability to work and deliver results independently and also work within a team
- Ability and willingness to work in a fully remote setting with a professional setup, including dependable, fast internet connectivity that can adequately support the work, including regular video calls
- A minimum of three hours of overlap with the US ET time zone between 9am and 6 pm.
- Minimum seven years of experience in editorial, journalism, content production, or related media field
- Fluency in verbal and written English
