ELI is seeking a Legal Intern for the summer of 2025 toassist with our portfolio of uniquely positioned environmental law and policyprojects addressing critical environment and sustainable development challengesdomestically and internationally.
ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP
In accord with our mission to build the skills and capacityof tomorrow’s leaders, ELI provides opportunities for law students to join usat the Institute. We welcome applications from current law students interestedin working as an intern during the summer of 2025 (approximately June –August).
Legal interns work closely with ELI experts on domestic andinternational research projects spanning ELI’s full range of program areas.Legal interns also may assist in the editing and production of ELIpublications, such as the Environmental Law Reporter. Legal interns providecrucial support for ELI projects and publications by conducting legal andpolicy research, analyzing environmental laws, attending and reporting onbriefings and current events, drafting memoranda and other products, andotherwise assisting in the preparation of published materials.
We encourage legal interns to supplement their workexperience by attending the seminars and events that ELI hosts, as well associal and networking opportunities provided by ELI and our partners.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Eligibility is limited to students enrolled in law school.
- Broad knowledge of or interest in environmental, energy, ornatural resource law and policy, or related field.
- Excellent skills in policy and legal research and analyticalwriting.
- Ability to become proficient in new issue areas andcontribute to creative, rigorous, analytical approaches to address them.
- Strong communication skills.
- Well-developed collaborative and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrates self-awareness, cultural competency andinclusivity, and ability to work with colleagues and stakeholders acrossdiverse cultures and backgrounds.
- Skills in languages other than English and bringing diverseperspectives to ELI as a result of the applicant’s life experiences areappreciated.

COMPENSATION
ELI provides interns an hourly wage of $25. In order toparticipate in the paid legal internship program, you must be physicallypresent in the DC metro area (where ELI’s office is located) during theinternship. If an intern desires to receive course credit for the internshipand the intern’s school prohibits earning income for the same work as thecourse credit is being received, accommodations can be made.
The internship runs for 10 weeks, and interns work full-time(37.5 hours per week).
