Elemental is seeking a Due Diligence Fellow to support our Portfolio team from mid-May through the middle of August 2024 (approx.). As a Fellow, you will play an integral role in selecting our next Cohort! The needs of this role are broken down into main two parts, separated by two stages in our diligence process:
1. For the first part of your Fellowship, you will be responsible for conducting due diligence on startups applying to be part of the Elemental Portfolio. Based on your expertise, you will be assigned to one or more sectors. (Elemental invests across 7 sectors: Energy, Mobility, Built-Environment, Industry, Water, Food & Agriculture, and Nature-Based Solutions.) You will work within “pods” of Elemental team members to evaluate companies within your assigned sector(s), scoring attributes such as impact, scalability, community engagement, and more based on a comprehensive rubric. You will draft notes and investment committee memos for companies that your pod recommends for further diligence. During this time you will report to and work closely with one of our Director’s of Innovation.
2. Once you have completed initial reviews of companies and helped your teams present potential opportunities to internal decision-makers, your focus will shift to conducting in-depth reviews of financial materials from startups that proceed to the next round in our diligence process. During this stage, you will evaluate financial documents such as balance sheets, income statements, forward financial projections, and more, and prepare summaries of companies’ financial health to advise the Elemental team as they evaluate investment opportunities. For this work, you will work closely with a member of our Investment Team.
