Position Description
SFEI is seeking a Technology Analyst towork in the Environmental Informatics and Clean Water Program teams. This is afull-time position for a candidate with a Bachelor’s degree or higher in arelevant scientific, information management, or data science field, with aninterest in environmental issues.
TheAnalyst will be a member of the Data Services team which is responsible for thesmooth operation of all enterprise-level production databases at SFEI and forproviding database management services. The Analyst will assist in uploading,maintaining, and displaying environmental data and performing data managementtasks required for the San Francisco Bay Area’s Regional Data Center efforts.
SFEI has a thirty-year track record ofinforming key environmental decisions through the use of credible, high-qualitydata. As a part of the Data Services team, the Analyst would contributemeaningfully to this remarkable legacy.
Primaryresponsibilities for this position will include:
- Tracking and processing datasubmittals from contract labs and research partners
- Reviewing, uploading andmaintaining monitoring data according to the Institute’s standard operatingprocedures and relational database structure
- Building and/or modifying scriptsto transform, load, review and access data
- Reviewing and comparingsubmitted data to project goals for accuracy, precision, sensitivity,contamination and completeness
- Assisting in the assembly,analysis, and presentation of data for technical reports, web-based tools, andother products

Qualifications
Required Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or higher ina pertinent scientific, information management, or computer science field, withan interest in environmental issues, plus minimum 2 years of experience inworking with relational databases.
RequiredSkills
- Must possess strong knowledgeof spreadsheet applications, especially Excel and/or Google Sheets
- Experience in database queryingand strong understanding of relational database structure
- Experience reviewing complex datasets for quality assurance and other issues
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Excellent problem solving skills
- Effective written and verbalcommunication skills
- Ability to work independentlywith limited supervision and also in a team environment
UsefulAdditional Skills
- Knowledge of relevant software(e.g. MS SQL Server, postgreSQL, R, Python/pandas, Git/version control)
- Experience working with CEDENor SWAMP
- Familiarity with databaseprogramming/scripting
- Knowledge of subjects relatingto environmental science (e.g. chemistry, biology, geology, ecology)
- Interest in working in amission-driven environmental science non-profit
