For five decades, the Environmental Law Institute (ELI) has played a pivotal role in shaping the fields of environmental law, policy, and management, both domestically and internationally. ELI is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Program Director to lead our Network for the Digital Economy and the Environment (nDEE) program, which aims to understand and address the environmental impact of the digital economy. The Program Director will be responsible for designing and executing projects that explore the intersections between technology, the digital economy, and the environment and for informing actionable policy to mitigate the direct and indirect negative impacts of digital technologies on the planet. Please note that this is a 1-year position to begin, with possibility of renewal depending on project outcomes.
10+ years of policy experience working on environmental or sustainability issues, preferably with a focus on digital technology.
A Master’s or Ph.D. or equivalent training and expertise in a relevant field, such as environmental studies, economics, computer science, engineering or public policy.
Familiarity with the political and policy making landscape in Washington, DC.
Substantive knowledge of the positive and negative impacts that digital technology and the digital economy have on the environment.
Proven experience raising funds and connecting with foundations and other potential funders.
Demonstrated ability to manage a team of researchers and program staff, and to work collaboratively with colleagues and external stakeholders.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex ideas to non-expert audiences.
Strong commitment to sustainability and social responsibility.
Ability to become proficient in new issue areas and contribute to creative, rigorous, analytical approaches to address them.
Well-developed collaborative and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated self-awareness, cultural competency and inclusivity, and ability to work with colleagues and stakeholders across diverse cultures and backgrounds.
